On June 6th in 2011 In a New York courtroom, Dominique Strauss-Kahn, the disgraced former head of the International Monetary Fund, pled not guilty to charges that he attempted to rape a maid at the hotel where he had been staying.

On June 6th in 2011 Former Pennsylvania congressman Rick Santorum announced that he is a candidate for the Republican nomination for president.

On June 6th in 2011 In Iraq five members of the U.S. military who were serving as advisors to the Iraqi security police, were killed by a rocket attack on their residence in Baghdad.

On June 6th in 2011 In Pakistan U.S. drone aircraft struck at least 3 attacks in South Waziristan killing at least 18 people.

On June 6th in 2012 U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has called for new, additional sanctions to be imposed on the Syrian government. In a meeting in Turkey, she said the circle of countries implementing the sanctions had to be expanded to close off the regime’s economic lifelines. Clinton echoed Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner’s call to invoke, if necessary, tough UN Chapter 7 sanctions against Damascus, as called by the Arab League. 

On June 6th in 2012 Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said the US will carry on with drone strikes against terrorist threats as long as it is necessary to protect America’s security. His comments came two days after a US drone strike killed al-Qaeda’s second in command. 

On June 6th in 2012 A bomb has targeted the US embassy offices in the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi. An embassy official said the improvised explosive device hit outside the gate of the offices late on Tuesday. No one was injured, Reuters reports. The Libyan government was asked to increase its security around US facilities. The US main embassy is in the capital Tripoli.
