On June 7th in 1712 The Pennsylvania Assembly banned the importation of slaves.
On June 7th in 1775 The United Colonies changed their name to United States.
On June 7th in 1776 Richard Henry Lee of Virginia proposed to the Continental Congress the resolution calling for a Declaration of Independence: that "these United Colonies are, and of right ought to be, free and independent States..." Congress delayed the vote on the resolution until July 1.

On June 7th in 1862 William Mumford became the 1st US citizen to be hanged for treason.
On June 7th in 1862 James J. Andrews (b.1829), civilian Union spy, was hanged in Atlanta for leading the April 12 Union raid in Georgia that stole the locomotive “General” in an effort to disrupt Confederate transport. On June 18 seven other Union men were hanged for the raid.
