On January 14th in 1639 - Connecticut's first constitution, the "Fundamental Orders," was adopted in Hartford

On January 14th in 1699 - Massachusetts holds day of fasting for wrongly persecuting "witches"

On January 14th in 1784 - The American Revolutionary War ends; United States Congress of the Confederation ratifies the Treaty of Paris. The Treaty of Paris was negotiated between the United States and Great Britain, it ended the revolutionary war and recognized American independence. The Continental Congress had named a five-member commission to negotiate a treaty–John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, John Jay, Thomas Jefferson, and Henry Laurens.

On January 14th in 1794 - Dr Jessee Bennet of Edom, Va, performs 1st successful Cesarean section operation in the US on his wife

On January 14th in 1799 - Eli Whitney receives government contract for 10,000 muskets

On January 14th in 1864 - General Sherman begins his march to the South
