On April 27th in 2011 Health products giant Johnson & Johnson said it will buy US-Swiss medical device maker Synthes Inc. for $21.3 billion, greatly increasing its share of the market for surgical trauma equipment and orthopedic implants.
On April 27th in 2012 Deputy Director of US National Intelligence Robert Cardillo as quoted by Reuters - said al-Qaeda’s core organization is likely incapable of implementing another mass-casualty attack similar to the one on September 11, 2001. US military and intelligence officials discussed the potency of al-Qaeda over a conference call with journalists. The reasons cited for al-Qaeda’s diminished capabilities were the death of leader Osama bin Laden, as well as the Arab Spring.
On April 27th in 2012 The US and Japan unveiled a revised agreement for American military presence on Okinawa. According to the plan, 9,000 Marines will be relocated from the southern Japanese island to Guam and other Asia-Pacific sites, including in Hawaii and Australia, Reuters said. The 1995 gang rape of a Japanese schoolgirl by US servicemen sparked widespread protests by Okinawans and intensified friction over the bases. Under a 1960 bilateral security treaty, about 47,000 US troops are located in Japan.
On April 27th in 2012 US Federal judge James Boasberg has rejected a request by government watchdog group Judicial Watch to release photos and videos taken during the the US military operation that killed al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden last May. The CIA said it had 52 photos and videos of the operation, but refused to release them, noting that classified materials were exempt from the US Freedom of Information Act.
