On December 11th in 1620 - 103 Mayflower pilgrims land at Plymouth Rock

On December 11th in 1719 - 1st recorded display of Aurora Borealis in north American colonies (New England)

On December 11th in 1816 - Indiana was admitted to the Union as the 19th American state.

On December 11th in 1844 - Dr. Horace Wells of Hartford Connecticut became the first person to have a tooth extracted after receiving Nitrous Oxide, or laughing gas as an anesthetic for a dental procedure.

On December 11th in 1872 - Pinckney Benton Stewart Pinchback became America's first black governor when he took office as acting governor of Louisiana.
