On February 9th in 1953 - General Walter Bedell Smith ended his term as the 4th director of CIA. Allen W. Dulles became the acting director of CIA and served to 1961.

On February 9th in 1955 - US federations of trade unions agreed to merge into the AFL-CIO: The American Federation of Labor and the Congress of Industrial Organizations.

On February 9th in 1959 - Mattel introduced Barbie at the annual Toy Fair in New York.

On February 9th in 1964 - Production began on the first Ford Mustang.

On February 9th in 1964 - The US embassy in Moscow was stoned by Chinese and Vietnamese students.
