On February 9th in 2012 - Five of the largest US banks agreed to a $26 billion, 3-year settlement over reckless lending practices in 49 states. The agreement would provide some foreclosure relief and partially compensate those who have lost their homes.

On February 9th in 2012 - The US House passed a bill, “Stop Trading on Congressional Knowledge” (STOCK), making it explicit that members of Congress are not allowed to engage in insider trading and get away with it.

On February 9th in 2012 - The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission voted 4-1 to grant a license to build two more nuclear reactors at Plant Vogtle in eastern Georgia.

On February 9th in 2012 - Pakistani officials said US missiles in Miranshah killed Badar Mansoor, the most senior Pakistani in Al-Qaeda, one of the Americans' main targets in the country and wanted for attacks that killed scores of people. 4 militants were reported killed in the pre-dawn drone strike.

On February 9th in 2013 - A huge blizzard has struck the northeast coast of the US causing havoc and leaving over 500,000 homes without power. “Nemo,” as the snow storm has been dubbed by the media, dumped over 16 inches of snow on Friday and more is expected. In Massachusetts a flood warning has been issued as waves taller than 30 feet have begun to buffet the coast.

On February 9th in 2013 - A nuclear power plant has experienced automatic shutdown as a result of a massive snow storm in Plymouth Massachusetts. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission stated that the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Plant had lost power in the huge blizzard that has enveloped the northeast of the US.
