On February 7th in 2011 - Georgia is interested in the recent suggestion of US senators to host the American missile defense system, but has not developed a firm position on this issue yet. According to Georgian Foreign Ministry spokesman David Jalagania, the initiative is worthy “from the point of view of regional security and stability”, but as the proposition has been made to the US Senate, it is the Senate that should make the decision. Last week, four Republican senators suggested stationing the US missile defense system in Georgia instead of Turkey, an offer that some experts have already dismissed as unrealistic.

On February 7th in 2011 - The Russian Foreign Ministry has denied reports in the British media that the United States is secretly planning to disclose classified information about the British nuclear deterrents to Russia. According to the reports citing US cables published by WikiLeaks, conditions of the New START nuclear non-proliferation treaty between Russia and the US included a clause on Moscow getting information about Trident missiles that the US sells to the UK.  However, according to Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov, these reports are false. “We would welcome some transparency in this area, but we don’t have any agreements, especially fixed in New START,” he said.

On February 7th in 2011 - Russian police issued a warrant for two men suspected of involvement in the January 2011 terror attack at Moscow's Domodedovo Airport. Both come from the Russian republic of Ingushetia, in the volatile North Caucasus. Earlier, the Federal Security Bureau said that the bombing, which claimed the lives of 36 people and wounded more than 100, was organized by the suicide bomber’s relatives, believed to be militants from the North Caucasus.

On February 7th in 2012 - Pyongyang has warned the US-South Korean military exercises Key Resolve and Foal Eagle will “increase tensions on the Korean peninsula and in Northeast Asia.” The maneuvers are scheduled for February and March. Rodong Sinmun, the ruling party’s newspaper, recalled on Tuesday the US demanded North Korea “to refrain from provocative actions.” But the scheduled large-scale exercises on the peninsula “clearly testify to an aggressive nature,” the paper said, as cited by Itar-Tass. Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) also stressed that the drills “are held to achieve military superiority.”

On February 7th in 2012 - Italy recalled its ambassador from Syria for consultations on Tuesday. The Foreign Ministry, however, said that the embassy will remain open, AFP reports. The Italian diplomats in Syria will continue to “follow with maximum attention developments in an extremely grave crisis,” the ministry said. It had also called in Syria’s ambassador to Rome, Khaddour Hasan, on Monday. He was told that Rome expressed “the firm condemnation and disgust” for the “unacceptable violence.”

On February 7th in 2012 - Paris recalled its ambassador to Syria on Tuesday. The French Foreign Ministry said the decision had been taken in the wake of continued repression against the opposition to the Syrian regime.
