On February 7th in 1865 - U.S. President Abraham Lincoln ordered a disabled 14-year old boy to be released from the 55th Kentucky regiment. Perry Harris had joined the army a month earlier without his parent's permission. The request for the discharge had been requested from the boy's father. The discharge was effective April 15.
On February 7th in 1943 - The U.S. government announced that shoe rationing would go into effect in two days.
On February 7th in 1944 - During World War II, the Germans launched a counteroffensive at Anzio, Italy.
On February 7th in 1962 - The U.S. government banned all Cuban imports and re-export of U.S. products to Cuba from other countries.
On February 7th in 1984 - Space shuttle astronauts Bruce McCandless II and Robert L. Stewart made the first un-tethered space walk.
