On December 29th in 1956 President Eisenhower asked Congress for the authority to oppose Soviet aggression in the Mideast.

On December 29th in 1975 A bomb exploded in the main terminal of New York's LaGuardia Airport, killing 11 people.

On December 29th in 1988 The Federal Aviation Administration, responding to the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103, announced tightened security measures for US air carriers at 103 airports in the Middle East and Western Europe.

On December 29th in 1992 The United States and Russia announced agreement on a nuclear arms reduction treaty.

On December 29th in 1997 In Newport, Indiana, Orville Lynn Majors, a former nurse, was arrested for murder and suspected in the deaths of 130 out of 147 patients that died while he was on duty between 1993 and 1995.
