On December 23rd in 1961 Fidel Castro announced Cuba he would release 1,113 prisoners from failed 1961 Bay of Pigs Invasion in exchange for $62 Million in food and medical supplies. Subsequently Cuba started returning US prisoners from Bay of Pigs invasion.

On December 23rd in 1968 The 82 crew members of the US intelligence ship Pueblo were released by North Korea, 11 months after they had been captured.

On December 23rd in 1969 US Congress restored the Fed use of credit controls with the Credit Control Act.

On December 23rd in 1970 In New York city - construction workers placed the highest steel on the World Trade Center.

On December 23rd in 1987 Lynette "Squeaky" Fromme, serving a life sentence for the attempted assassination of U.S. President Ford in 1975, escaped from the Alderson Federal Prison for Women in West Virginia. She was recaptured two days later.
