On August 30th in 2005 A US federal court ordered Palestinian Authority assets in the US frozen in order to pay a $116 million judgement for the 1996 killing of an American in Israel.
On August 30th in 2005 The death toll in Mississippi from Hurricane Katrina passed 100. Flooding reached 11 feet in Mobile, Ala. Breaches in at least 2 levees from Lake Pontchartrain put parts of New Orleans under 20 feet of water. Mayor Ray Nagin estimated that 80% of New Orleans was flooded. Tourists snapped pictures of looters in the French Quarter.
On August 30th in 2006 In California Gov. Schwarzenegger and Democrats struck a deal to require state industries to lower greenhouse gas emissions.
