On August 29th in 1916 Congress created the US Naval reserve.

On August 29th in 1944 15,000 American troops marched down the Champs Elysees in Paris as the French capital continued to celebrate its liberation from the Nazis.

On August 29th in 1945 General MacArthur was named the Supreme Commander of Allied Powers in Japan.
