On June 13th in 2009 North Korea vowed to step up its atomic bomb-making program and threatened war if its ships are stopped as part of new UN sanctions aimed at punishing the nation for its latest nuclear test.
On June 13th in 2011 The US Dept. of Justice said Hecla Mining Co. will pay $263 million to settle one of the nation’s largest Superfund lawsuits for releasing mining waste into the environment in Idaho.
On June 13th in 2011 Speaking in Ethiopia to members of the African Union, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton spoke out against African leaders with despotic regimes, and encouraged democratic reforms in those countries. The Secretary of State encouraged members to break ties with Libyan strongman Muammar Khaddafi and to support the rebels fighting to overthrow him.
On June 13th in 2012 Washington provides “no military support” to the Syrian opposition, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said at a joint press conference with the PM of India. “All of our support has been medical and humanitarian,” she added. Clinton has also clarified her recent comments regarding the relationship between Moscow and Damascus by saying it is clearly a concern for Washington. “The U.S. has repeatedly urged the Russian government to cut these military ties completely and to suspend all further support and deliveries,” she said.
On June 13th in 2012 The Red Cross office in the Libyan city of Misrata was bombed, and one local man wounded in the blast. The attack was likely carried out by a remote control bomb. The attack was the second attack on the organization in less than a month.

Some 16 million North Koreans were facing malnutrition and economic hardship. The official death toll released by the North Korean Food Damage Rehabilitation Committee in 1999 stands at 220,000, while various sources estimate that from two to three million people died between 1995 and 1998.
