On May 11th in 1967 In Vietnam the siege of Khe Sanh ended, with the base still in American hands.

On May 11th in 1973 Charges against Daniel Ellsberg and Anthony Russo for their role in the Pentagon Papers case were dismissed by Judge William M. Byrne, who cited government misconduct.

On May 11th in 1987 Former US National Security Adviser Robert C. McFarlane began testifying at the Iran-Contra hearings. 

On May 11th in 1989 President Bush recalled the US ambassador and planned to dispatch about 1,700 soldiers and 165 marines in phases to reinforce troops already in Panama.

On May 11th in 1989 US Federal Judge Walter Nixon of Mississippi was impeached by the House of Representatives. The US Senate voted to remove Nixon from the bench on November 4, 1989. He had been convicted in 1986 on perjury charges and sentenced to five years in prison. 

On May 11th in 1990 President Bush, on a two-day trip of college commencement speeches, told reporters aboard Air Force One that there were "no conditions" going into a budget summit with Congress.
