On February 22nd in 2003 President Bush told Spain’s PM Aznar that nations like Mexico, Angola, Chile and Cameroon must know that the security of the United States is at stake. Bush threatened nations with retaliation if they did not vote for a UN resolution backing the Iraq war. A transcript of a meeting on this day, one month before the US-led invasion of Iraq, was published in the El Pais daily in 2007.
On February 22nd in 2005 A Virginia man was charged with plotting with al-Qaida to kill President Bush. Ahmed Omar Abu Ali was convicted on all counts in November 2005.
