On February 14th in 2002 - The US House of Representatives passed the Shays-Meehan bill. The bill, if passed by the US Senate, would ban millions of unregulated money that goes to the national political parties.

On February 14th in 2002 - President Bush proposed an environmental plan that would encourage businesses to cut pollution and develop more energy-efficient technology.

On February 14th in 2002 - The US House voted to ban unregulated contributions to national political parties.

On February 14th in 2002 - Sharon Watkins, Enron Vice President, testified that Jeffrey Skilling was behind the accounting that led to the company’s bankruptcy and that CEO Kenneth Lay was probably duped by his executives and was unaware of the depth of Enron’s problems. Watkins told a House subcommittee it was common knowledge at the company that partnerships were used improperly to hide debt and inflate profits.

On February 14th in 2002 - The 168th annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science opened in Boston with a bleak assessment of planet health and a call for conservation of resources.

On February 14th in 2003 - Saddam Hussein banned all weapons of mass destruction from Iraq, meeting a long time UN demand.
