On July 2nd in 1890 Congress passed the Sherman Antitrust Act.

On July 2nd in 1894 The US Government obtained an injunction against striking Pullman Workers.

On July 2nd in 1924 The 1st day of transcontinental airmail service brought news to SF mailed from New York after 34 hours and 45 minutes.

On July 2nd in 1926 The U.S. Army Air Corps was created by Congress. The Distinguish Flying Cross was authorized.

On July 2nd in 1932 New York Gov. Franklin D. Roosevelt won the nomination for President on the 4th ballot at the Democratic convention in Chicago.

On July 2nd in 1937 Amelia Earhart and navigator Fred Noonan left Lae in Papua, New Guinea and disappeared over the Pacific Ocean while attempting to make the first round-the-world flight at the equator. The two had set out in Earhart's twin-engine Lockheed Electra, taking off from Oakland, Calif., for Miami on May 21. They flew across the Atlantic from Brazil to Africa, then reached Calcutta on June 17, having made 15 stops thus far. They failed to arrive at their scheduled stop at Howland Island. Radio operators received messages from Earhart saying that they had to be close and were circling, searching for land, but radio contact was lost and the two were never heard from again. Radioman Leo Bellarts was the last person to communicate with Earhart.
