On July 4th in 1862 Battle of Port Royal, SC

On July 4th in 1863 Boise, Idaho, was founded.

On July 4th in 1863 General U.S. Grant's Union army captured the Confederate town of Vicksburg, Miss., after a long siege during the Civil War.
