On July 4th in 2005 A senior US defense official confirmed the deaths of two Navy SEALS that were missing in action in Afghanistan's northeast.

On July 4th in 2005 Iowa’s Gov. Tom Vilsack gave all Iowa’s ex-prisoners the right to vote.

On July 4th in 2012 Three US diplomats were questioned by Pakistani authorities after police in the city of Peshawar discovered weapons in their vehicles. Police found several rifles, pistols and ammunition after searching the vehicles. Three Pakistani citizens accompanying the diplomats were charged with illegally possessing firearms  The incident came as relations between the two countries hit its lowest point in years. Twenty eight Pakistani citizens had been killed over the previous three days in US drone strikes.

On July 4th in 2012 Up to 16 suspected Taliban fighters were thought to have been killed and four injured after a US drone strike targeted a militant compound in north-western Pakistan.
