On May 2nd in 1776 France and Spain agreed to donate arms to American rebels.
On May 2nd in 1863 The Confederates smashed Hooker's flank and scored a victory at Chancellorsville, Virginia. Confederate General Stonewall Jackson was shot by friendly fire as he returned to his lines; he died eight days later. Captain J. Keith Boswell, an officer with Jackson, was also shot and killed.
