On April 25th in 1954 Bell Labs in NYC announced the 1st solar battery.

On April 25th in 1956 John W. Powell (1919-2008), former editor of the China Weekly Review, was indicted by a federal grand jury in San Francisco on charges of sedition. Powell had published articles about alleged military use of germ warfare during the Korean War. A 5-day trial in 1959 ended in a mistrial and the judge said the charge should have been treason. A charge of treason was dismissed 6 months later. All government charges were dropped in 1961.

On April 25th in 1959 The St. Lawrence Seaway linking the Atlantic to the Great Lakes opened to shipping. 

On April 25th in 1962 Operation Dominic began with a test blast on Christmas Island. The operation was a series of 105 nuclear test explosions conducted in 1962 and 1963 by the United States. Those conducted in the Pacific are sometimes called Dominic I. The blasts in Nevada are known as Dominic II.

On April 25th in 1962 US. Ranger spacecraft crash landed on the Moon. 

On April 25th in 1980 President Jimmy Carter announced the hostage rescue disaster in Iran.
