It was in response to a directive issued by Truman on January 31: “to undertake a reexamination of our objectives in peace and war and of the effect of these objectives on our strategic plans, in the light of the probable fission bomb capability and possible thermonuclear bomb capability of the Soviet Union.”
On April 14th in 1959 The Taft Memorial Bell Tower was dedicated in Washington, D.C.
On April 14th in 1967 In San Francisco thousands marched from the Ferry building to Kezar Stadium against the Vietnam war. The marchers filled the 40,000 capacity stadium.
