On April 12th in 1994 The US Operations Distant Runner and Support Hope began in Rwanda and ended Sep 30, 1994. Total cost $147.8 billion.

On April 12th in 1996 President Clinton named U.S. Trade Representative Mickey Kantor to succeed the late Ron Brown as commerce secretary.

On April 12th in 1996 Historian Stanley I. Kutler of the Univ. of Wisconsin won the release of the Nixon White House tapes. He started his suit in 1992.

On April 12th in 1999 In Arkansas U.S. District Judge Susan Webber Wright cited President Clinton for contempt of court, concluding that the president had lied about his relationship with Monica Lewinsky in a deposition in the Paula Jones case.

On April 12th in 1999 A jury in Little Rock, Ark., acquitted Susan McDougal of obstructing Independent Counsel Kenneth Starr's Whitewater inquiry and deadlocked on two other charges, causing a mistrial. 

On April 12th in 2000 Attorney General Janet Reno met in Miami with the US relatives of Elian Gonzalez, after which she ordered them to bring the six-year-old boy to an airport the next day so he could be taken to a reunion with his father in Washington. Elian was seized by federal agents ten days after Reno’s order to turn him over.
